The 18th day of Elul, 'CHAI ELUL' (Wednesday), inaugurates a 12-day countdown—one day per month of the old year—till Rosh Hashana.
It is also the anniversary of: the birth of the Baal Shem Tov (1698), and of the Baal HaTanya (1745), and the yahrzeit of the Maharal of Prague,
as well as the date on which the Baal Shem Tov revealed the Chasidic movement, in 1734.
Articles #1-3 are samples of their respective teachings, while the story (#7) features both of them 'performing'.
In addition, (article #2) is our famous "Chai-Elul-Meditation-Wheel", based on a teaching of the Baal Shem Tov.
Articles #4-6, are forf this week's Torah reading, Ki Tavo,
with #4 explaining the popular commandment of the "First Fruits Parade" to Jerusalem discussed in the first section of Ki Tavo (Deut. 26:1-11).
On Saturday night Askenazic Jews start the distinctive pre-Rosh Hashana Selichot/Forgiveness prayers (next week's lead article) — Sephardim will have been reciting them for three weeks already.
Be Prepared! Rosh HaShana starts in ten days after this Shabbat.
