A note from the staff of Kabbalah Online in Tzefat
This Shabbat is the yahrzeit-hilula of
Rabbi Yonatan Ben Uziel, the top student of the great sage Hillel. His burial
site in Amuka Valley, outside of Tzefat, receives tens of thousands of visitors
a year, especially those that heard it is a propitious place to pray to meet
one's destined marriage partner.
The lead article provides fascinating insights from the Baal Shem Tov on this seminal figure in Jewish history and scholarship The Torah reading, Shelach, is built around the sad rejection of the Jewish people in the desert to "making aliyah" to the Promised Land; the antidote is to arouse in ourselves love and fondness for the Land and for life in it.
