Seven Times Straight

A segula from the Ramban for Chanukah.

There is a segula1 from the Ramban for after lighting the Chanukah lights to say the verse from Psalms: "May the graciousness of the L·rd our G·d be upon us," (Psalms 90:17) repeating each word seven times. This is very good to do.

My Master, the Baal Shem Tov, told us to say both this Psalm and Psalm 91, "He who dwells in the covert of the Most High" seven times straight. He would also do so on the High Holy Days, and in all times of trouble.

One should meditate on two letter nun's.

Rabbi Eliezer Shore, the translator, studied in yeshivot in New York and Israel for many years. He currently lives in Jerusalem, where he is a writer, storyteller, and Torah teacher.

Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov [“Master of the Good Name”], 1698–1760. A unique and seminal figure in Jewish history, revealed the chassidic movement, and his own identity as an exceptionally holy person, on his 36th birthday, 18 Elul 1734. He passed away on the festival of Shavuot in 1760. He wrote no books, although many contain his teachings. (Also referred to as “the BeShT,” from an acronym of Baal Shem Tov.)

Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, known as Ramban or Nachmanides, this illustrious scholar, philosopher and defender of the faith, was a master kabbalist in his own right and a major link in the transmission of Jewish mysticism.
