Aaron’s was mourned even more than Moses when he died. The Ohr HaChaim explains that Aaron had been a peace-maker. In addition, his death was unexpected and followed immediately with an attack by the Canaanites. On the contrary, when Moses died, they knew the way was clear to cross the Jordan and take possession of the land of Canaan.
