"Every man shall revere his mother and his father." Rabbi Shimon said: It is written, "But you that did cleave to G‑d..." (Deut. 4:4) Fortunate are Israel that cling to G‑d. Because they cling to Him, everyone clings together, one with the other.
Come and behold: when man sanctifies himself below [during marital intimacy] such as the Colleagues who sanctify themselves [by abstaining from marital intimacy until] Shabbat, at the same time when supernal mating is found, for at that time goodwill is found and blessing is ready [to descend to this world]. Then everything cleaves together as one, the soul of Shabbat [that came out from the unification of Zeir Anpin and Nukva] and the body which is prepared on Shabbat [from the unification of Abba and Imma]. Hence the verse, "Every man shall revere his mother and his father, for they [one's parents] are paired as one in body at that time to be sanctified [during marital intimacy, drawing down his soul, and for this he should revere them]; "...and keep My Shabbatot [in plural]..." - that is, the supernal Shabbat [Zeir Anpin] and the lower Shabbat [malchut] who prepare the soul for that body from that supernal pairing [of Zeir Anpin and Nukva on Friday night]. Therefore, "and keep My Shabbatot," two. All cleave one with the other [supernal with lower] . Worthy is the portion of Israel.
Another explanation [for]: "and keep My Shabbatot," to warn those who wait to couple from one Shabbat to another Shabbat and we established, as it is written, "to the eunuchs that keep My Shabbatot." (Isaiah 56:4) Who are [these] "eunuchs"? These are the Colleagues that restrict themselves like eunuchs all other days in order to toil in the Torah and they wait from Shabbat to Shabbat. This is [the meaning of the word 'shamor'] the writing, "that 'wait' [for, not 'keep'] My Shabbatot." The term as it says, "but his father 'waited' [until] the matter [would happen]." (Gen. 37:11) For this reason, it is written, "and 'wait' [for] My Shabbatot."
"Every man shall revere his mother and his father", that is the body [shall revere its father and mother, his biological parents], "and keep My Shabbatot," that is the soul [shall revere its father - supernal Shabbat, Zeir Anpin, and mother - lower Shabbat, malchut]. All cleave one with the other. Worthy is the lot of Israel.
BeRahamim LeHayyim: Animals eat. Animals procreate. Humans eat. Humans procreate. In this we are alike. However, the holiness code of Parashat Kedoshim, meaning Holiness, raises the bar. For if we sanctify ourselves below in these two areas, profound sublime mysteries occur above. Which is why these two activities are emphasized on Shabbat.
The delight of sumptuous meals feed the extra soul as well as lifts the sparks of holiness and the reincarnated souls in the blessed food and drink. The intense pleasure of marital intimacy brings forth holy souls from the most supernal place. "Vayinafash" therefore means to be "ensouled". Fortunate are those who can maintain this perspective on our holy day of rest.
