A note from the staff of Kabbalah Online in Tzefat
Welcome to our special Lag b'Omer issue:
In many places, Lag B'Omer (Saturday night-Sunday, May 13-14) is 'picnic day', 'bonfire night', 'outing day' and so forth. In Israel it is primarily "Zohar Day," especially here in the Safed area, with 250,000 people making the pilgrimage to nearby Meron and the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the source of the Zohar teachings. Articles #1,4,5,7 examine different aspects of this important occasion. Articles #2-3 are for "Pesach Sheni" (Wednesday) the Torah's most overlooked holiday! (one of them includes a lengthy Zohar quote) This week's reading, Emor, contains the source verses for the mitzvah of Counting the Omer, which we are in the midst of now (see article #6, from the Zohar). Dedication
In loving memory of Rabbi Arye-Leib ("Leibel") Kaplan, a master teacher of the inner dimensions of Torah and head of the Safed-Chabad community from its modern inception with his arrival in 1973 until
his tragic early death twenty-five years later. On the occasion of his 19th yahrzeit this Friday, 16 Iyar. |
