A note from the staff of Kabbalah Online in Tzefat
A major theme of this week's Torah Reading - Shemini - is Eating Kosher — see articles #4-5.
The ultimate goal of leaving Egypt was not just to escape slavery, but to forge the Torah Covenant at Sinai-- There is a unique mitzvah for the seven weeks between the two holidays (article #2). The third article presents insights (as does the story—7th article) for the first chapter of Pirkei Avot (the Mishnaic tractate of 'Ethical Principles'), of which we study one chapter each Shabbat until Shavuot. (Many repeat the cycle until Rosh Hashana). About the lead article, see the dedication. (Those of you in Israel should click to Tazria-Metzora for articles on the Weekly Reading there.) Dedication
In honor of the yahrzeit on Sunday, 30 Nissan, of Rabbi Chaim Vital
(see lead article), main disciple of the "Holy Ari" and the only one permitted to record his teachings. |
