Elul is the last month before Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, and therefore is associated with "soul-accounting" and repentance. It begins this Tuesday. The Elul articles this week (1 - 3) are either specific to the beginning of the month or else related to the Torah Reading, Shoftim.
