KABBALISTIC LAG B'OMER SEMINAR

Lag B'Omer

The 33rd day of the Omer (in Hebrew 33 is represented by the letters lamed = 30 and gimel = 3, pronounced as a word: 'lag') is a day of celebration for two reasons:

  1. The plague that afflicted the students of Rabbi Akiva - the foremost Torah scholars of their day - ceased (temporarily) and
  2. The anniversary of the death of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the original kabbalist upon whose teachings the Zohar is constructed.
