Torah Reading for the Festival

We begin again...

On the festival of  Simchat Torah (Oct. 8, 2004, outside of Israel), or the combined holiday  Shmini Atzeret-Simchat Torah (Oct. 7, in Israel proper), we read the final portion of the Torah, V'Zot haBracha. When this has been completed, the reader immediately begins to read the first section of the first portion of the Torah, Bereshit, thus linking the end to a new beginning. The entire portion of Bereshit is read on the first Shabbat after Simchat Torah, which this year means on the following day!
