The Zohar tells us that the " Ushpizin," the seven
"Shepherds" of the Jewish people visit every Jew in his Sukka, each night
a different one at the head. And each of them is a paradigm for a different one
of the seven divine attributes.
1st day - Abraham - chesed
2nd day - Isaac - gevura
3rd day - Jacob - tiferet
4th day - Moses - netzach
5th day - Aaron - hod
6th day - Joseph - yesod
7th day- David - malchut
Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotsk, was once told of a certain other
tzadik who said of himself that he sees each year all seven Ushpizin in
his sukkah. Replied the Kotsker: "I myself don't see them, but I nevertheless
believe the statement of our sages of blessed memory that they come to every
Sukka. And through this faith, I see more than they do with their eyes!"
